Why use a shaving brush? A shaving brush can hold
significant amounts of water, which mix with the soap lifted from a shaving
mug. The more water a brush holds, the richer a lather will be. Thicker and
more emollient lather translates to less razor skipping and dragging.
Bringing a shave brush across one's skin produces a mild exfoliation.
Because a shave brush is most often used with a glycerin-based soap, this
effect often replaces the pre-shave routine of washing and applying lotion to
the face.
The greatest benefit from a shaving brush is the tendency to soften and
lift facial hair before a shave. Applying shaving cream by hand mats hair or
raises it unevenly. Using a shaving brush, however, requires a circular
motion to form a lather suitable for a shave. Therefore, a razor does not
need to be pressed to the skin in order to provide a close shave.

Our classic Shaving Soap is specially formulated with glycerin, silk fibers, kaolin
clay, and coconut oil. Kaolin clay gives the soap a lot of glide to help you achieve
a close shave without drying your skin. Everything else works together to generate
a rich lather when used with a shaving brush and hot water. The lather protects the
skin and softens the beard while providing an extremely close shave.
While any soap can produce lather, soaps especially formulated for
shaving tend to give better results. These are regularly used with a brush, and,
when properly used, can produce a lather comparable to that of the creams.
Soaps are commonly used with a bowl or cup to contain the lather whipped up by the
brush.

Each of these shaving bowls are
made by hand using a process called metal spinning. The process
starts with a flat aluminum circle, that with the help of a
lathe, is slowly molded over a form. Once the desired shape has been
achieved, a brush finish is applied to both the outside and the
inside of each bowl.
